Last Night

Okay...so...we had a bit of a frightening evening. I want to start by saying that Roger, our baby, and I are all okay.

It started Saturday with a bit of bleeding...it was bright red and scared me a bit, but it seemed to taper off and stop by that evening. So, I decided to take it a bit easier on Sunday by not going anywhere, just staying home, and putting all the stuff back together that I'd washed. By about 11pm I had a pretty big scare by seeing the bleeding again, more of it, and some other things that I don't wish to go into too much detail. I freaked out, but called Dr.S before I just ran to the ER. She called me back almost immediately and told me to go.

We were there about 3 1/2 hours. They gave me lots of fluids, they took blood, urine, and a sonogram. The doctor told me that the blood didn't seem to be coming from my cervix, that baby is doing great, and I'm just one of those special cases that has bleeding while pregnant and could have it throughout the entire pregnancy. They don't know why, but some women just continue to bleed around the time of when they would have had a cycle. I hadn't seen anything like that to date, before it was just barely light pink, but I hope to not see it again...but maybe I'll be a bit more prepared if it happens again.

I was never so happy to see my baby moving around, super active, and it's little heart just beating away. If nothing else hit home for me that I am going to be a mommy, that did it for me. Being so worried about the thought of not being able to see baby moving, and the great relief that washed through my entire body when I did....I can't really explain it.

The doctor tried to see the sex, and we got to see a little bottom...but it was gone in 2 seconds. "Oh, there was the bottom," he said. "Oh, there was a little hand." It was amazing.

So today, I literally did take it easy. I stayed in bed until lunch time, ate my lunch, then sat in the recliner or laid on the couch doing absolutely nothing...if that is what it will take to keep baby in as long as possible, I would do it every day.

Update on 15 Weeks

So, 15 weeks! My next appointment is on the 19th and we are crossing our fingers to see the sex. Hopefully stubborn baby will cooperate this time! On to the updates!

Babycenter.com: "Your growing baby now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces (about the size of an apple). She's busy moving amniotic fluid through her nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in her lungs begin to develop. Her legs are growing longer than her arms now, and she can move all of her joints and limbs. Although her eyelids are still fused shut, she can sense light. If you shine a flashlight at your tummy, for instance, she's likely to move away from the beam. There's not much for your baby to taste at this point, but she is forming taste buds. Finally, if you have an ultrasound this week, you may be able to find out whether your baby's a boy or a girl! (Don't be too disappointed if it remains a mystery, though. Nailing down your baby's sex depends on the clarity of the picture and on your baby's position. He or she may be modestly curled up or turned in such a way as to "hide the goods.") " Hahaha! Don't we already know about that!

Thebump.com: "Continuing the march toward normal proportions, baby's legs now out-measure his arms. And, finally, all four limbs have functional joints. Your fetus is squirming and wiggling like crazy down in the womb, though you probably can't feel the movements just yet."

Babiesonline.com: "Rapid growth of your baby continues at this point. The skin is very thin and you can see the blood vessels clearly underneath. The scalp hair pattern is developing while fine hair (called lanugo) covers the baby's body.

Your baby's taste buds already look like a mature adult's and doctors have learned that the amniotic fluid that surrounds it can smell strongly of curry, cumin, garlic, onion and other essences from a mother's diet. Your baby's bones continue to harden and retain calcium very rapidly. At this point in the pregnancy the placenta will begin to take on the job of hormone production to sustain the pregnancy, which was the job of your ovaries up to this point. Your baby's eyelids are now firmly shut, and will stay closed until the third trimester.

Update on 14 Weeks

So, since we took a bit of a vacation over the weekend and had no Internet service where we were at, I am just now getting to the update.

We'll start with Babycenter.com: "How your baby's growing:
This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb.

In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces. His body's growing faster than his head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of his body. (His legs still have some lengthening to do.) He's starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. Your baby's liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it's doing its job right — and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though you can't feel his tiny punches and kicks yet, your little pugilist's hands and feet (which now measure about 1/2 inch long) are more flexible and active.
"

Thebump.com: "In theory, your uterus' ability to expand (14 times in size, 20 in weight) is awe-inspiring; in practice, it kind of hurts. When the aches and sharp pains hit your belly, think about this happy news: By now, your risk of miscarriage has gone way, way down." And boy do they! Sneezing is painful, turns or moving too fast is painful, and I get sudden cramps that feel like my abdomen is splitting in half...but this is happy news...riiight, ::laughs dryly::

Babiesonline.com: "Your baby's body systems are starting to work on their own. The digestive system practices moving food along the intestines and through the renal system and he can create and eliminate urine. He also continues to practice breathing the amniotic fluid in and out of his lungs. Your baby has tiny, soft nails on his fingers and toes, is growing hair and may even suck his thumb. Your baby is approximately 10-11.5 cm (3 1/2 -4 inches) and weighs approximately 1.5 ounces.

Also, your baby's blood is beginning to form in the bone marrow and blood vessels are beginning to connect various parts of the fetus to another. The joints and muscles allow your baby full body movement so your baby is able to move around. The baby's neck is getting longer and his chin is no longer resting on his chest. The eyes and ears continue to move into place. The hands are becoming functional and reflex movements often occur. Nourishment now comes from the placenta. Remember, some of what you eat and drink is getting through to your baby. The doctor can tell if your baby is a boy or a girl using special tests.

Amniotic fluid is an amazing substance. It completely regenerates itself every three hours. We do know that it is partially composed of urine from the baby, but where amniotic fluid in general is made we are not sure. Modern medicine still has some surprises left.
"

So, we also had an appointment today as well. We didn't get to see any thumb sucking (aww...) but we did get to see the little heart fluttering, the head, spine, body, legs, feet and arms. It was exciting to see it moving and kicking and stretching. Unfortunately it's back was facing us so we couldn't see anything but outlines and back. She tried to see if we could get anything between the legs, but baby was just not cooperating. Big surprise, our baby is stubborn! teehee! Oh well, it was really too early to tell anyways. We will probably have a better chance next time. They will do blood tests next time to look for markers flagging things like Downs, spinal tube defects, and other not good things. I am just hoping our baby is perfectly normal... ::crosses fingers::

Sonogram of Baby
Heartbeat
My attempt at Color Coding a bit. Pink is the head, Red is the torso, and Yellow is the spine.
And this is the Color Coded face shot. "The alien face," as Dr.S put it. Pink is the head, Red is the torso, Yellow is the spine, Brown is the eyes, Blue is the nose, Grey is the mouth, and Green is one little fist.

That is our little lemon..

So we had this awesome Queen bed at the cabin we stayed in and we were about to go to bed. I was laying on my side facing the bathroom because Roger was in there and I was talking to him. I was super hot, so I was naked. He comes out of the bathroom and taps/pats my tummy.
I say, "You patted my tummy...Whyfor did you pat my tummy?"
He says, "I didn't."
I say, "You did too, just now."
He says, "Nope, that is our baby."
He is so cute, and had and still has my heart melting when he said this. I think he may be warming up to the fact that we are having a baby.

Update on 13 Weeks

So, according to most of the things I've read, 13 weeks is the beginning of the second trimester! Some sites say 14 weeks, but the books I've read and at least 2 of the sites I'm signed up for say 13. So, Hello Second Trimester! This post will be a bit longer, due to the extra importance of the start of the second trimester.

Everything I've read agrees that the second is much easier on body and mind. BabiesOnline.com: "Welcome to your second trimester! Many mothers state that this is the time when they feel their best. The early signs of pregnancy are over and you will find yourself with more energy. Also, this is the time when you will begin to feel pregnant. This is usually the most enjoyable and comfortable part of pregnancy as the feelings of sickness are ending (or soon will be) and your tummy is still small enough that it is not getting in the way or making you feel uncomfortable. Your body is working very hard right now, so you need to listen to the little clues it will give you, and make sure to get enough rest."

Thebump.com: "Welcome to the blissful second trimester, widely recognized as pregnancy's most comfortable and enjoyable. (Yes, it's a relative distinction.)"

and the one website that says 14 is the second, Babycenter.com: "This is the last week of your first trimester, and your risk of miscarriage is now much lower than earlier in pregnancy. Next week marks the beginning of your second trimester, a time of relative comfort for many women who see early pregnancy symptoms such as morning sickness and fatigue subside. More good news: Many couples also notice a distinct libido lift around this time."

So, now all I'm waiting for is to feel better. I'm still battling a double ear infection that is very painful and left me with swollen ear canals and not able to hear more than maybe 10 to 15% of my normal hearing. Good news is I finally broke my 100+ fever that was just compounding my symptoms and making me worry about my baby, and my left ear is not nearly as painful as it was to start. I am super looking forward this second trimester glow!

Okay, so! Now on to the actual update!

Thebump.com: "Your fetus is forming teeth and vocal cords...savor this, their nonfunctional phase. Baby is approaching normal proportions, with his head now only one third the size of his body. And intestines are in the process of moving from the umbilical cord to baby's tummy -- much more convenient."

Babycenter.com: "Fingerprints have formed on your baby's tiny fingertips, her veins and organs are clearly visible through her still-thin skin, and her body is starting to catch up with her head — which makes up just a third of her body size now. If you're having a girl, she now has more than 2 million eggs in her ovaries. Your baby is almost 3 inches long (the size of a medium shrimp) and weighs nearly an ounce."

Babiesonline.com: "There is a lot going on with your baby this week. The villi are forming in the intestines, and these help in peristaltic movements and digestion. The liver begins to secrete bile and the pancreas is even secreting insulin! All twenty teeth have formed and are waiting under the gums, while your baby has begun to practice swallowing by taking in the surrounding amniotic fluid and passing it back in his urine. Your baby can smile and his vocal cords are quickly developing, too. He looks more and more human as his eyes move closer together and the ears are beginning to move to what will be their normal positions. Your baby weighs between approximately 13 and 20 grams (1/2 and 3/4 ounce) and is approximately 2 1/2 to 3 inches long. The placenta and baby are about the same weight now."

Update on 12 Weeks

Had another busy weekend. My mom invited herself to my sister's house for a cookout on Friday, so we ate, swam and was merry. On Saturday, Roger and I went swimming by ourselves since Miranda and Marcus were away for their anniversary. Yesterday we had a dinner/True Blood party with my nearest and dearest. And now, I'm up early because my ears are majorly hurting, causing me to not sleep, and I'm waiting for 8am so I can call the doctor.

Anywho, on to the update! Since that's what I am here for ::laughs::

Babycenter.com: "How your baby's growing:
The most dramatic development this week: reflexes. Your baby's fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won't be able to feel it. His intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into his abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into his bladder.

Meanwhile, nerve cells are multiplying rapidly, and in your baby's brain, synapses are forming furiously. His face looks unquestionably human: His eyes have moved from the sides to the front of his head, and his ears are right where they should be. From crown to rump, your baby-to-be is just over 2 inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce.
"

Thebump.com: "As you move into the second trimester, baby shifts into the growth and maturation stage. After weeks in the critical development stage, almost all of her systems are fully formed."

Tell Me What You Think...

Okay, so, I took this Intelligender test to see what it said about the sex of my baby. They say you can take them when you're at least 10 weeks. Here's what mine looked like:
The first two pictures are of both color compares together, the third one is with a flash:

This one is Girl, obviously, and the second is Boy:

My urine in the morning is very yellow to start, and it said if it stays the same or up to orange it's a girl result and if it is green, dusky green, or dark green it's a boy result. What do you all think is the result?
Also, here are a few examples on the Intelligender's website, if that helps.
